“In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand fold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers, we are not simply protecting their trivial old age, we are thereby ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations.”
Is it really a surprise when we see the media call the actions of the wh*te people “peaceful protests” but the actions of everyone else “rioting” and “dangerous”?
What’s happening today isn’t some some surprise event. It’s the results of years and years of injustice and inequity that has been building up in our country. These crimes against society only worsened these past four years as the mismanagement of this country enabled the malpractice of hateful groups.
Now that government is starting to slowly (emphasis on SLOWLY) shift towards a more just reign, the actions of these groups are starting to see the possible changes in their status within the country.
So of course they are going to riot.
Now that they realize that they will be facing some minimal risk (again, emphasis on MINIMAL). They are afraid they won’t be able to go on their temper tantrums without consequence. Afraid that their hateful actions will start to see some sort of repercussion.
However, if we are going to learn anything from the happenings of today, it’s that the leniency that the government and police force have towards these people is horrendous. Not that anyone is surprised, but the fact that we are so accustomed, and so expectant of such leniency is further proof of the deep-seated corruption that’s been imbued in the so called “country of freedom and liberty”.
We’re at a breaking point.
We know that change is required. A necessity if we are to imagine any sort of future in this country. Yet, the way things are going, the way people think and react, the way they are consistently enabled and allowed to do such things, dwindles any opportunity for change.
But today’s events also serve as hope. As evidence that change is possible, and that change is effective. With the Georgia senate conversion from red to blue, we can see that change is certainly possible so long as the disgruntled and the mistreated minority band together.
I know that we’ve heard the same message on repeat for the past four years, but today is living proof of how influential your vote is.
I’m not good at motivating or inspiring people, but all I can ask from anyone reading this is to please pay attention to what’s going on. Even if it’s not around you at the moment, even if you think that it isn’t affecting you, it doesn’t mean that it’s not around.
Someone once said that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice somewhere”.
Let’s not turn a blind eye to this.
